HI, I am so sorry about the loss of your son. I am so glad I read your article. My son loves to eat a lot of those foods. I will now think twice about giving them to him. I have two children 2 1/2 and 5 weeks. I don't know what I would do without them. I can't imagine what your life is like without one of your kids. Jackie Tartaglione

I read the story about your son, Eric, in Bob Braun's column in the Star-Ledger. I always read his columns, and they usually make me cry, as I am now, but I had to look at your web site. To Eric's parents and sister--I am so sorry for your loss, I can't imagine the pain you are going through and how much you miss your sweet little boy. He looks just adorable in the pictures, and I'm sure he was a smart and talented child. My own son is now 16 yrs. old and when I read your story, I thought of all the hot dogs and other foods I gave him as a child without ever thinking about the choking hazard. What you're doing by warning parents about the dangers of food asphyxiation is a good thing, and you are so courageous to think of other people and their families during your own sorrow. God bless you all! I will pray for peace for your family.

Although I am aware of the choking hazards associated with the foods mentioned in the Star Ledger and your website, it is a fresh reminder of how very dangerous these foods can be. I worry about my children (5 and 2 1/2) constantly -- there are so many dangers out there in the world!!! But the choking issue is so very preventable. When I do give them any of the foods you mention in the website, I am always careful to cut properly and supervise them while they are eating. However, now maybe I will think twice about giving them certain foods until they are older -- especially our youngest. God bless you. I am so very sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine what you have gone through.

As always, our thoughts are with you. The Star Ledger article was beautifully written and did a wonderful job of warning parents about choking dangers.

So sorry to learn about Eric's death. It made me think of when my oldest child chocked on a large candy ball. He couldn't make a sound - no child or adult ever could. But I was so very fortunate just to simply be in the same room. I saw his struggle, and used the Heimlich Maneuver which I knew. It worked and a terrible tragedy was averted simply by luck and some basic knowledge. I urge all parents to learn this method, and to help teach it to their older children. Note how it is different for infants. One can also teach all children how they can signal to others that they are chocking. Learn the method at: http://www.heimlichinstitute.org/maneuver.html It is so very sad that Eric died. But through his mother's efforts and her story in today's paper, additional families will be spared from having to experience such a devestating tragedy as she and her family did.
